Free Frontend CDNs Available in China#
On December 20, 2021, there was a major earthquake regarding frontend CDNs: jsDelivr's service in mainland China went down.
As a widely used free CDN with fast global access, jsDelivr was adopted by many websites for acceleration, including many blog themes (such as Hexo and Gridea) and comment systems (such as Waline). However, because jsDelivr can be used as a CDN for GitHub resources, many tutorials on using jsDelivr as a free image hosting service emerged. Since it can be used to access images, it can also be used to access files and more using the same method. This has laid hidden dangers for the misuse of jsDelivr.
Due to the sharing of some non-compliant resources (such as scripts that bypass restrictions), raw.githubusercontent.com
and gist.github.com
on GitHub have been blocked, and GitHub has been in a very unstable state. Using jsDelivr as an image hosting and download storage only consumes resources and does not pose a significant threat. However, if it is used in collision with the network environment and regulatory rules in China, it puts the ICP filing that jsDelivr has worked hard to obtain at risk. Just imagine if there are more and more strange things on GitHub, will there be a github.cn
in the future? When using public services, please try not to excessively consume public resources and cause adverse effects.
To get back on track, through my search, the major frontend CDNs currently available are as follows:
75CDN (360 Frontend Static Resource Library)#
Main site: https://cdn.baomitu.com
Rest assured, this resource library won't do anything fishy. Just directly reference it in your website. It stopped for a while a year ago due to filing changes, but after re-filing, it has been very stable. Currently, most of the static resources on my blog are from here.
BootCDN#
Main site: https://www.bootcdn.cn/
A free frontend open source project CDN created by Bootstrap's Chinese website. On February 10, 2022, due to some non-compliant websites referencing files on this CDN, the CDN was mistakenly affected, but it has now resumed normal service. However, one thing I want to complain about is that even though it is a CDN, the main site uses resources from jsDelivr, which makes the loading speed very slow.
Personally, I think the following search engines available in China are excellent#
Bing went down again recently, and for a moment, I thought the dark ages were coming. After all, if you want to talk about why I don't use other search engines, I can only say that there are too many criticisms, and I like efficiency, simplicity, and no clutter. Although there have been several user-friendly niche search engines in China in the background dominated by major search engines, they have almost all failed to persist. Even the recent F Search couldn't hold on and is preparing to shut down. I just hope that the search engine I like will still exist in the future.
The following are some search engines that I have discovered over a long period of time. I hope they can all survive.
Microsoft Bing#
Website: https://cn.bing.com
Produced by Microsoft, almost no ads, and I am very satisfied with the search results. It has always been my main search engine.
Mengso#
Website: https://mengso.com/?q=meng
Uses the highest level of rule filtering for information, for example, if I search for "Russia" on it, it will return empty results. However, it seems to focus more on the programmer community and is very useful as a tool.
Qwant#
Website: https://www.qwant.com/
A search engine from France, no ads, respects privacy.
Swisscows#
Website: https://swisscows.com/
Very fast access speed, clean results.
Yandex#
Website: https://yandex.com/
A well-established search engine from Russia, provides diverse search results with high relevance.
